Leicester University (UK) to host 9th International Critical Management Studies Conference (2015)

Date:
10/12/2013
Type:

The International Critical Management Studies Board (ICMSB) is pleased to announce that the 9th CMS conference will take place in July 2015 at the University of Leicester. The conference theme will be ‘Is There an Alternative? Management after Critique’, reflects a growing focus on alternatives to current forms of market managerialism. Although CMS has been effective at mounting a critique of various elements of the business school orthodoxy, examining and promoting different ways of thinking about organizing and markets, is still an underexplored area. The conference aims to encourage theoretical, practical and political contributions that explore the idea of alternatives, alternative organizational forms and practices, and theoretical developments (particularly in feminism, anarchism, communism, green thinking and so on) that encourage the generation of new forms of localism, or alter-globalization as resistance to neo-liberalism.

The Leicester School of Management, known for its diversity of critical management scholars, will host the event. It aims to organize an extraordinary conference of streams, workshops, panels, keynotes, events and activities (including PhD workshop prior to the conference) that address the development and extension of alternatives. Some of this will involve engaging with practitioners and activists in, for example, worker managed firms, co-operatives, complementary currencies and more.
An official call for themes and workshops and further details will be distributed early next year in the meantime please visit criticalmanagement.org for further details.

We welcome as many of you to join us!

With best wishes,

The International CMS Board
